Week Commencing: Sat 05/05/2018

Another great week here at Gigantica with over forty fish being landed, including

1 x 70, 2 x 60’S, 2 x50’s, 5 x 40’s, 4 x 30’s and the rest were made up of 20’s and Stockies. The day time temperature was up into the low 30’s, and the night time temperature was still going down to a chilly 10 degrees. The lake temperature has now gone up to 16 degrees centigrade.

Fudgy’s made an appearance this week at a massive 77lb, Harry Everitt was the lucky one to catch this impressive fish, which he had from The Alamo. Harry was fishing to a clear hard area at 12 wraps, in line with the club house. The fish fell to an 18mm CC Moore Live System boilie which was tipped with a white 15mm pop-up, snowman style. He was baiting the spot every day with 2kg of boilies.

Sam Pure was set up in Alcatraz where he started fishing the known areas in the swim. After a few days, he went over to zigs as there were lots of carp showing at 80 yards, it wasn’t long before he was into his first Gigantica carp, a nice 30lb mirror. Not long after this, he had another take which felt much bigger; after a long hard fight he landed a monster mirror known as "The Clown", which went 57lb 8oz, and a new PB for Sam. It went quite for a day, then out of the blue his rod ripped off, and this turned out to be another huge mirror, but this one went 67lb 8oz beating his PB by another 10lb. WOW, he’s smashed his PB twice in a week; great angling Sam. All his fish came on 23ft zigs with black foam.

Next up, Mathew Wood AKA “Chip" was fishing in Pole Position. He went straight onto the zigs as there were carp showing out in front of him. Chip started off with 18ft, 20ft and 22ft zig’s, all with black foam. After a slow start, on Wednesday he had his first fish of the week, a well deserved 37lb 12oz mirror known as "The Resident", which gave him back his confidence back. From that moment, he was "on it", and that afternoon he was in again, this time with a cracking 43lb 4oz mirror, one I know very well, "Scale Perfect". The next morning Chip was in again this time he lands a Monster, a 66lb 8oz mirror known as 'Roberts Fish'. All of his bites came on Black foam and the successful depth was 20ft. Black seems to be the colour that is working at the moment, but its always best to use different colours through out the day as the light changes.

Richard Day went into Bob’s Beach and started on the zigs as there were fish coming out of them. Rich was casting his zigs in-between the Stink and the Alamo at a range of 80 yards, and they were all on black foam. It didn’t take long for him to get his first bite, and a cracking fish it was too, the Spotty Leather at 54lb 8oz. Straight after that he landed "The God Farther of Soul" at 40lb 8oz, and the next morning he was in again, this time with a cracking fully scaled mirror known as "Mad Max" which went 39lb 2oz. He went on to have another three tewnties to end the week.

Nick Lea went into Co’s Point where he was fishing all three rods at 100 yards, on 18ft zigs. On Sunday morning he landed a Gigantica scaley mirror known as "Double Take" at 30lb 8oz. That evening he was in again this time it was his right hand rod, and after a good old scrap he landed "The Stranger" at 41lb.

Russell Pemberton was set up in The Stink and he decided to fish all three rods at 120 yards as there were fish crashing out. All of his rods had 18ft zigs on, all with black foam, which was his way of attacking this swim. On Monday morning Russell had his first take, and his middle rod ripped off. After a hard fight he landed a cracking mirror called "The Unattended" at 42lb 8oz. Russ tried all different depths but just couldn’t get another bite, he even tried baiting a spot closer in on the bottom at 16 wraps towards Co’s.

Lee Recci went into Oblivion started off fishing the right hand margin with one rod, and the other two rods were cast straight out at 80 yards. He was baiting up every day with a couple kilos of boilies over each rod. After no action he went onto zigs casting all three rods at 100 yards to where the fish were showing. He started off with depths of 18ft, 20ft and 22ft. It wasn’t long before he was into his first carp on a zig, and it didn’t want to come in at all. It went right straight into a weed bed and locked up solid. After keeping the pressure on, it it came free and went straight into the net; Lee was rewarded with the "Snags Linear" at 46lb 8oz.

Phil Bailey went into Big Girls. He was fishing all three rods over to the far margin and baiting each spot with 2 kilos of boilies every day. Throughout the week, Phil had four carp to 18lb 4oz, and they all came on an IQ D-Rig with a Mainline Cell bottom bait, and a Northern Special pop up.

Lee Huges fishing in the Tree Line was fishing to the left hand margin and he was baiting up every day with a couple kilos of boilies. Throughout the week Lee had a total of fourteen carp to 24lb. He was using an IQ D-Rig with a wafter as his hook bait.

That’s it for another fantastic week here on the Main Lake.
