Week Commencing: Sat 01/09/2018

Another week commences at Gigantica with eleven hopefuls trying there best to catch some of the most beautiful scaly carp in France. The weather for the week was over cast with some sunny days in between with temperatures up into the the 20’s and the night time temperature down to 12 degrees, there was a steady westerly for most of the week.

First up was Ollie Pruden who decided to go into Pole Position, he found a nice area at 27 wraps left of the Stink and baited the spot with 10kg of Washed out Shrimp Boilies from Trent Baits. It wasn’t until Wednesday the Ollie had his first take, this turned out to be “Equalled” at 42lb. The next morning he was in again this time with “Baby Cluster” at 52lb. Ollie was using a simple Knot Less Knot Rig with a shrimp boilie as his hook bait, over the week he used 30 kilo’s of boilies, he had a couple of stockies towards to end of the week.

Kevin Savage was fishing in Co’s Point, he was fishing all three rods at 22 wraps straight out and baited the area with a few kilos of Boilies from Trent Baits. On Monday he had his first take this turned out to be an 18lb stockie, not long after that he goes and lands a cracking 52lb mirror called “White Lines”. Kev was using a Blow Back Rig with a SSD boilie as his hook bait. He baited the area with a few more kilos of boilies. On Friday afternoon just before tea he lands “Broady’s Mirror” at 46lb, the next morning just as he was packing up he lands “Sammy” at 42lb. Over the course of the week Kev used 20 kilos of boilies.

Wez Savage went into The Stink, he was fishing all three rods at 21 wraps towards the corner of the Tree line, and baited the area with 5kg of boilies from Trent Baits. On Monday morning he goes and lands “Spences” at 64lb. WOW! what a way to start your week, this fell to a Supple Hinge Rig with an Uber Fruits cork ball wafter as his hook bait. Wez baited the area with another 5kg of washed out baits, which he had soaking 24 hours before spoding them out. The next morning he was in again this time it was “2C’s” which went 43lb. On Friday evening Wez moved into Co’s Point to spend the last night with his father, then at first light he lands a 46lb mirror not a bad way to end your week at Gigantica.

Ash Savage went into Alcatraz, he was fishing two rods at 22 wraps towards Scotties Corner and his other rod was at 25 wraps to the right of Big Southerly, he baited each area with 5kg of Boilies. Ash was using a Multi Rig with a SSD Uber Fruits boilie as his hook bait. Ash could only manage a couple of stockies.

Dean Hill was set up in Oblivion, he was fishing all three rods to a clear area at 27 wraps and baited the area with 8kg of boilies, he didn’t fish this area for a couple days, on the third day he cast a rig to the spot and it didn’t take long before he was into his first carp of the session a 19lb12oz mirror, he re-cast the rod straight away and while he was doing the photos his rod went of again this fought a bit harder and turned out to be a 56lb12oz mirror called “Shoulders”. Dean was using a Ronnie Rig with an Active Nut Pop up as his hook bait. He finished the week with a 34lb4oz mirror.

Stuart Bradshaw went into The Alamo, he was fishing to a clear area at 26 wraps straight out and his other rod was cast to the left of the swim at 14 wraps in-line with the Club house, he baited both area’s with 8kg of boilies then on Tuesday he has his first bite, this turned out to be a 50lb8oz mirror called “The Weld” after re-casting and baiting the area again he lands a 22lb sctokie, Stuart was using a Multi-Rig with an Active Nut Boilie as his hook bait.

John Hill was set up in Big Southerly, he was fishing straight out at 23 wraps just to the left of Alcatraz, he baited the area with 8kg mix of boilies and Maze. John was using a Ronnie Rig with an SSD Pop up as his hook bait. On Tuesday he goes and lands a 22lb8oz mirror, the next morning he was in again this time with a 35lb8oz mirror called “Two Faces”. Over the week he used a 40 kilo mix of boilies and Maze.

Lee Hollingworth went into Big Girls, he was fishing all three rods along the far margin and baited each spot with 3kg of Active Nut bolies per day, he was using the Ronnie Rig with an Active Nut Pop up as his hook bait, Lee only managed two stockies but he got to name one of them, he decided to call it “Josie” and it went 20lb9oz.

James Salmons went into Bob’s Beach, he found a nice smooth area at 22 wraps just to the right of The Alamo, he baited the area with 4kg mix of boilies and Maze, bit of a hard week for James as he only managed a 26lb common called “Wood’s Common” this fell to a Ronnie Rig with an Active Nut pop up as his hook bait.

Well that’s it for another week here on the Main lake, Not many fish but some cracking one’s.
