Week Commencing: Sat 10/12/2022

Working hard or hardly working? Target Acquired…

Well you join me on an absolutely baltic week two of the Winter Work Parties here at Gigantica, last week the main focus was on the stock pond areas and lots of tree/foilage work over on the Road Lake, this week we are concentrating on the Main Lake Swims. Completely rebuilding Stock Pond and Pole Position to give some privacy and solidarity if fishing in one of the pegs solo. Fluffing the other swims and mixing some fresh soil into the mix to make it easier for pegs and sticks to go in during the summer months! We had Embryos finest in the shape of Jordan, Callum and Big Dave with a certain Tom Stokes out for the 2 weeks helping too. We had no customers on the Main Lake this week so the lads were able to set up and fish the nights on the Main. After a nervy draw between the lads this is what followed…

Well I have to start and finish with Tom Stokes who managed to get himself into Co’s Point which has amazing form at this time of year! Keeping things simple with Yellow Pop ups on Spinners fished at 134 yards towards the Flat Oak what happened during the week was nothing short of ridiculous…The harshest conditions any of us have worked in outside let alone fished in with the mercury dropping to minus double digits Tom managed to land 7 fish to just over 30lb on his first night! Toms bait mix consisted of crumbed boilie and corn! With some liquids to stodge up the mix so it flew out nicely in the spomb. Rebaiting with 4-6 spombs after each fish and putting 10 spombs out before coming round to start work in the mornings kept the bites coming consistently! After catching numerous high 20’s/30 lbers and a few of the new stockies that have gone in this year we were all having a chat at dinner about whether one of the bigger fish could have a chance of getting to the hookbait before these ravenous stockies had a chance…well the next morning we sure got our answer! I received a frantic phonecall just before first light from Tom, “I think ive got the Target” amongst some other choice words that I shall leave to the imagination! So we all headed rounded to Co’s and I quickly confirmed that It was indeed the Target! A quick phone call to the gaffer just to let him know Stokesy had caught his target fish on only his 2nd visit to the Main Lake (P45 is in the post Tom!) we continued with the weighing! The Main Lake monster span the scales round to 70lb on the nose and a new PB for Tom! What an epic creature made even more special by the conditions that she was captured in! All the boys there to share the buzz and help with shots/footage made the moment even more memorable! Tom kept up the consistency enduring frozen spools/braid/nets/slings it was the most hardcore fishing conditions I’ve ever seen. Tom finished the week on 28 fish! With some mega 2017 stockies going close to 50lb to back up arguably the best carp in the lake! Jordan dropped in for a night and managed a 30lber for his efforts as well! What a crazy session, keep and eye out for more images and info from the man himself over Christmas!

Lots of work has been completed over the last couple of weeks mass improvements are always happening at Gigantica! Lots of laughs and plenty or hot water bottles, amazing help from the Embryo Team, Team Korda and all the other Volunteers over the last couple of weeks thankyou very much!

Until next time,

Tight lines,

Steve
