Week Commencing: Sat 24/12/2022

Well, that’s a wrap for 2022, again we would like to thank all our customers this year and the continued support for the fishery and wish everyone a happy new year and tightlines!

The week leading up to Christmas was very slow with temperatures dropping down to as low as -12! In Baltic conditions it was no surprise that the fish didn’t want to feed! Although it was not a complete blank as Hayes in Cos point managed a 26lb stocky!

So, Christmas week and the conditions completely changed! On Christmas day we were greeted by bright sunshine and blue skies and double figure temperatures which resulted in us all being in t-shirts! On the fishing front there was in fact a Christmas carp on the bank! Darren Morgan in Cos point landed a Willo at 36lb 8oz on the Sunday morning. Darren fished at 31 wraps towards the flat oak and baited with boilie crumb and corn. Fishing spinner rigs with yellow pop ups over the top. Darren ended the week with 10 carp.

The other top rod of the week is Jim Pike who fished Alcatraz. Fishing at 33 wraps, 3 tight on a spot with spinner rigs fishing with yellow mulbz pop ups. Jims baiting approach consisted of boilie crumb soaked in matching liquids along with lake water to help get it to the bottom and then sweetcorn making up over half the mix. Jim would get up at 4am each morning to kick start the day baiting with 20 spombs. This would lead to late morning bites. After every fish he would bait up with 5 spombs to keep the fish in the area. This worked a treat as jim ended the week with 10 fish, with the biggest being smarty pants at 57lb8oz! well fished jim.

The week finished up with 22 fish for the week which was more than acceptable for late December!
