Spring Is Finally Here!!

This week we saw more activity from carp in one week than what we saw all winter, the fish were everywhere at the start of the week showing from 3 wraps out in margins to all the way out above the tyres. But we soon had a south west wind blowing straight into big girls and as there normal spring routine they were in there showing. Although they were showing everywhere it still fished fairly hard but there was still a couple of bangers out.

We will start off with regular Steve Davis AKA Ginge. Steve as he normally does picks out the highest ball in the bag, if there’s 8 anglers on he would pick out ball 10! And in true form, in his hand was ball no8. But he still manged to get into big southerly and caught a belter on the first night Apple Slices at 52lb 8oz a unreal fish! He went on to catch another mid 30 mirror but that was all, not bad for 8th in the draw! Steve was fishing 25 wraps out towards Alcatraz fishing singles, a single piece of fake maize on a combi rig done the job.

Then we have Ginty, he started off in Alamo with his mate but after 4 days watching them show in big girls he decided to make a move and it was a good move. He ended up landing 6 fish to 39lb. Chucking solid bags at showing fish got him his bites.

Jonathan Jones came out ball no1 and of course he picked the best view in the house Co’s Point! It was JJ’s first time here and I would say for the first time all winter the fish moved out of there! Very unlucky for him. But he still managed to land 3 fish cheesy quaver being the biggest at 33lb. JJ was fishing 31 wraps straight out for his fish with spinners and fake maize over the top!

Mark Bei in stink started off well landing a mid-twenty stockie on his first night but sadly it dried up for him. Mark was fishing 31 wraps towards baxters hole fishing spinners with fake maize.

Myself I landed in pole position once again and had a bit of blinding week landing 6 fish. I decided not to fish the first 3 nights and just pre bait so 40 spombs went in on the Saturday night, another 30 on the Sunday night and 30 on the Monday. The rods went out on the Tuesday and I was rewarded with a high twenty stockier randomly at 1o’clock on the Wednesday. I went on to catch a few more through the week but Saturday morning was the morning I landed Bobbing’s Dancing at 41lb at first light happy days. I decided not to re cast the rod because I saw fish showing on me as I was playing that fish, not so long after the right hand rod was away this time with Soft Focus at 49lb. Not a bad week, I was fishing 33 wraps to the right of stink with spinners and isotonic pop ups!

A much better week this week weather wise and with all the fish showing I’m sure good times are just around the corner!

Until next time

Tight lines

Ben
