The Iconic Shot!!
Its been a very tough week this week with only Scotties, Big girls, Oblivion and Co’s point producing fish. The spring sun has pulled the fish up into the upper layers, making getting a bite of the deck a very challenging task! Swallow’s swooping down all day is a tell tail sign a hatch has been on all week.
Marcus Leak came out mid-way in the draw and with the knowledge of the fish being in the corners he opted of Scotties corner a very good shout with the depth only being 15ft compared to the 25-30 ft Infront of the central swims. He only managed one for the week a fish known as Storm at 36lb 12oz. Marcus was fishing to the far margin reed line over hemp and maize with boilie. Spinners with yellow pop ups got him his bite.
Chris Conington got his first choice “Big Girls” another good choice this time of year. The fish tend to move to this side of the lake in the spring for spawning and they hang around near this swim months before they spawn. Being in Big Girls did pay off for Chris landing 3 fish to 30lb 4oz, again fishing to the far margin, spooning in hemp and maize with Solid Bags over the top got him his fish.
David Matthews in Oblivion manged to land himself a near fully scaled, a fish called Ripper at 28lb. Dave was fishing 25 wraps towards Alcatraz fishing over corn and crushed boilie with combi rigs over the top.
Then we have Harry Hogan fishing out of Co’s point, well pouching his dad swim “Treeline” to his right, with his dad’s permission of course! But he did manage one, a nice 22lb mirror. And of course he had to have the iconic shotgun Co's shot. He was fishing a solid bag at a showing fish.
Myself I fished long out of Alcatraz at 33 wraps and managed one on the final morning, a nice 36lb half line. I was fishing spinners with little yellow pop ups over hemp flake and crushed boilie.
A very tough week for most but spring is here, and it only takes a little warmer weather for it to kick off. Hopefully soon!
Until next time
Tight lines
