Week Commencing: Sat 29/04/2023

   Long time in the waiting!

The time had finally come for Gary Smith .

Gary had arranged an exclusive lake booking on Gigantica’s main lake back in 2019! It’s took Gary a while to get here due to being let down not once but twice by covid and you could tell he was more than happy to finally arrive. He’sfirst words were ‘’I’ve finally made it’’ whilst bursting through the gates.

With everyone buzzing to finally be on Gigantica turf, it was time to do the walk around whilst taking their complimentary drinks. The walk rounds are a vital part of your fishing experience here at Gigantica and it can be a lot of info to take in at first; but don’t worry we always come around a second time to make sure you are on the spots and give you the best advice as possible.

Let’s get going with Gary Exton who came out in the draw late but still managed to bag Alamo. After my second walk around and talking to Gary he was after as much information as possible by asking questions and making the most of our knowledge of the lake. Gary started by feature finding the spots I recommended. After a day’s searching, he settled with two rods with at 31 wraps just left of Baxter’s and one short at 16 wraps to the club house. Early into the week he was rewarded with a lovely 32lb Common, who we also had the pleasure to name – ‘No Show’.  Gary hadn’t turned up for dinner two nights on the bounce, so this name fitted perfectly! I have a feeling he was going feral round there and getting somewhat hungry and he finally decided to show his face on BBQ night.

Gary’s next bite came later on in the week on the long spot with a super looking mirror, bang on 37lb known as Rapide. Gary’s tactics for the week was a combi rig size 4 Claw Barbless tied with 25lb Jelli Wire. Gary also used 8kg of boilie and 4kg of Corn. He deserved to have more bites but unfortunately that’s fishing at times.

It was an absolute pleasure to look after you this week, great attitude towards fishing, and the joker of the pack, I will defiantly look forward to having you back mate!

Next we have Matt who chose Big Girls. It was clear to see that the carp had arrived on the spit with various shows, with a slight wind this had pushed the carp into the corner. Matt was quick to find the spots, and rods were deployed, fishing two rods at 25 wraps just off the spit. With the inlet from the stock ponds this always holds good heads of carp with fresh water pushing into the main lake, Matt managed a bite on the first morning with a Scaly 23lb Mirror and followed up with another Mirror at 22lb.

Sadly the wind changed direction and seemed to push the fish out the corner causing three or four days to pass with no bites.  It’s very important on the Main Lake not to lose your head and keeping the same tactics that’s been working.

With the week coming to an end, the wind direction changed yet again and this was now in Matts favor.  With another four fish landed! A 35lb 8oz common, 29lb mirror, 17lb mirror ending with a 34lb scaly mirror known as Sans Oeuf. This was the best of the bunch, and you can see why when you view the pics. Good steady angling this week.

Matt’s tactics for the week was the famous IQD Rigs coupled with Cell Wafters coated in Almond Goo along with slow sinking Plastic Corn-  pimping your hook baits does really give you a good edge.

Final tally for the week was seven bites and seven fish landed!

Next we have Jeremy in Tree Line.  Tree Line hasn’t done a bite all year so bearing this in mind this was a very brave choice. Jeremy started his week fishing solid bags at different ranges to see if he could nick a bite. With the weather warming up Jeremy decided to fish top of the shelf down the tree line but due to no avail, he decided to change tactics and go in with one zig at a depth of 20ft on black foam.

Later that morning when delivering breakfast we finally had one in the sling! First one of the year in Tree Line and what a carp it was too! A pristine common at 37lb 8oz followed up by an absolute worldie of a carp known as Double Decker Lin at 27lb 2oz . Not the biggest but a real gem and one I would love to catch myself. This was to be Jeremy’s final carp for the week but well done on both your captures.

Next we have Bejay who jumped on last minute due to someone dropping out, and lucky enough he managed to bag the most famous swim on the lake Co’s Point - how’s your luck. After sitting down with Bejay and talking about the spots he decided to fish the Tits at 28 wraps. Co’s can be fished at all distances up to 31 wraps, with the warmer weather you don’t have to be fishing the full range.

When fishing at Gigantica its important you fish to your strengths and not to out do yourself as this can ruin your fishing. Remember to always fish a spot where you can cast a rig and bait to.

Bejay fished real hard this week with regularly baiting to try and buy a bite, but it just wasn’t to be. However he didn’t give up and started to see fish show short to his right hand side and decided to put a 18ft zig out to the showing fish. Boy was Bejay rewarded landing Cookies & Cream at 42lb - what a cracking carp! Gigantica is all about making people’s dreams come true and with captures like this you can see why.

This was to be Bejay’s only action for the week but ill give it to you mate you fished really well and deserved more bites. Fingers crossed we get to see you again and jump on another cancellation.

Last up we have Ken who opted for Stock pond. This suited Ken's style of fishing who was looking to fish a short range swim. Ken decided to fish a spot down the right hand margin at 9 wraps and two rods straight out at Oblivion 17 wraps as there was plenty of fish showing in the bay. On the second day, Ken was into his fiirst fish but unfortunately that was lost, Ken then got another chance on his margin spot with a lovely mirror known as Tyson at 24lb 4oz.

This was the final action for Ken. Even though plenty of fish were showing in the bay their just wasn’t getting there heads down to feed.

That was all the action, a tough week for the boys. What a great bunch of lads to have and it was an absolute pleasure looking after you all at Gigantica.Hopefully we get to see you all again I’m sure Gary will be on the phone looking for he’s next lake exclusive.

Until next time tight Lines.

Many thanks Mike.
