ARE THESE FISH GOING TO SPAWN YET!?
Following on from a really good couple of weeks on the Main lake was that form going to continue was a question in my own mind, 12 lads joined us this week and what a great bunch they was from the get go!
Let’s start of the new week with Morgan Adawee, after Morgan hammering me for information across from the fence just before the gates was due to open wanting to know everything that happened the week before it was stock pond where he found himself for the week, in no time at all he set about the margin spots at 9 wraps to the first opening in the trees and a little further up at 14 wraps. Taking note of what Ricky done the week before roving the 3rd rod around in open water with a 20ft zig black foam it was Saturday then soon passed before 1st light the 14wrap margin spot was away and shortly after rewarded with his 1st Gigantica carp being 28lb common. It didn’t stop there for Morgan he manged to be very consistent throughout the week landing a fish a day 3 x 20s, 3 x stockies to 19lb and then his new PB came midweek ‘Septimus’ 43lb 14oz. week was going superb for Morg until he blew his fox horizon rod in 3 pieces! It gets better the day after he blows up another!!! I told him you want to invest in some Kaizen’s. Baiting little and often seems to be key at the moment so he averaged at 3kg a day of pellet maize and Atlantic heat boilie chops/Crum, size 4 wide gape spinners with 12mm yellow popups still slipping these spooky carp up the main lake has to offer, rounding out the week with 7 bites top angling mate.
Matt pole kept me busy all week in Pole position, after a very slow start matt had a move on his mind on the 2ndmorning when we had a chat after breakfast and I said keep the faith mate an trust your spots… his look soon turned around Tuesday morning with the swim throwing fish up week in week out between 7am – 10:30 am he was away on the 19.5 wrap spot at the scary tree he were attached to his 1st Gigantica carp after a few moments later it was picture time with ‘Bobbins Dancing’ at 42lb 8oz what a result. Just like Morgan mate kept consistent all week with his baiting up resting the swim in the afternoon before re setting the rods after dinner for the night time. Matt when on to land 9 fish for week with 2 of them on packing up Saturday morning 9 (out of hours carping I said to him so they don’t count). Anyhow there were a few originals in the mix off matts bag of carp he had ‘Thackery’ at 28lb ‘The Exocet’ 34lb 10oz ‘Tosh’s’ 34lb ‘Yorkie’ 32lb, highlight of the week was Thursday morning when he had 4 slings tied to the bank with the maize 5kg pellet better 2 fish being ‘La Ibicenca’ at 42lb round out with his new PB ‘Lashes’ 56lb 4oz. Spinner rigs with double pop up corn on all three rods for matt baiting only in the afternoon with 10kg and 3kg of essential cell boilies to last him the week seemed to have paid off for him.
We had Cheshire’s top kitchen fitter Carl smith in Big Girlsfor the week and it didn’t take him long either to get his first carp on the bank first light Sunday morning ‘The Spectator’36lb 8oz what a way to open your Gigantica account. Being a typical northerner he couldn’t bear the afternoon heat so he didn’t fish the afternoons and found himself round in Stock pond for a social with Matt and Morgan, carl managed 6 fish for the with his better one being his new PB ‘Little Kicker’ at 43lb 6oz, baiting up in the afternoons yet again before resting his swim it was easy work for carl spooning his bait into the 26 wraps spot at the spit just in front of the weed bed using a mix of house pellet maizekrill boilies and flake maize fishing Hinge-Rig with 20mm wafters shaved down with a corn topper.
Gigantica regular Dan Coles was over the moon to land in the Alamo after coming out ball 5 took no time to get a 18ft zig out straight towards the big tree left of bob’s Beach. It came to Sunday evening when he got a take on the zig he was soon on the phone with “joe I’ve got a scaly banger mate” he wasn’t wrong he had ‘Humpy’ at 47lb 6 oz and it awesome condition! Few days had past for Dan and he fancied a move into Baxter’s after seeing the fish in there before dinner service, Baiting the 25 wraps spot to the marker pole for 2 rods leaving his 3rd rod for the zig out in open water there was only one more fish Dan wanted and that was a big common!. Carp gods gave the boy what he wanted and it was the zig rod that rewarded him with ‘parker’ at 52lb 14oz and that was Dan’s week made.
Following on from the Zig fishing we had Dan Cleary in bob’s Beach after seeing the motherload of the lakes stock cruising across the surface on the walk round in front of the beach that’s where Dan fancied his chances for the week. In no surprise at all he had carp in the sling for pics with a 20ft zig with the old faithful black foam slipping this 1st victim up. 9 fish for the week for Dan with 2 30’s ‘Oscar’ 35lb biggest fish of the week with ‘The Gruffalo’ at 29lb 4oz ‘Patched lin’ at 28lb and 5 more 20s to finish out the week. Dan was working the 29wrap spot out in front all week with standard bottom bait rigs but unfortunately lost 2 fish from this spot, all his landed fish came of the zig.
James Winnington couldn’t turn down the chance to jump into the famous Co’s point despite it not being in consistent form at the minute he still gave it his all an manged to slip the ‘Duke’ into his net at 27lb 14oz of yet again a 20ft zig. That was the only fish of the week for Winny he never gave in an kept a smile on his face all week and was a pleasure having him and the bunch he came with.
We had Steve Wright’s 1st trip of the year with him picking Treeline for the week he opted for the 21 wrap spot down his margin baiting from the bank with corn and pellet to keep the noise to a minimum it was his 3rd rod that done his first bite out in open water on a zig 2ft under the surface being ‘Short Dorsal’ at 40lb 2oz. Steve mange another 2 fish mid doubles to round out the week.
Last up and 5th in the group of lads was Ricky Beavisfishing in Alcatraz, a little bit out of his comfort zone looking out at that huge piece of water he didn’t let that get in his way and he did manage to land 2 carp of a zig out at 20 wraps to the right of Big suv was all that came his way with ‘Brillo’ at 18lb being the best and he had the pleasure of naming it after his dog. That was all for Ricky this week but coming in a group of 5 and the pressure of them all catching they did all go home with a wet net.
With the temperature forecast for a blazing rise next week is looking like it could be a challenging one.
But for now it was a pleasure this week lads
All the best,
Joe.
