Co’s Point Smash up.
It was soon time to welcome in 12 happy anglers again this week, as always smiles on people’s faces and full off confidence to take on the challenge off the big G.
Let’s start this week’s report off with Nathan Jose. First time at the G for Nathan and he manged to pull ball 1 out the hat at the dreaded draw, knowing how famous Co’s Point is he was straight in there fishing the 30 wrap spot to the old tits. Wasting no time at all he had 3 IQD-RIGS with 18mm Mainline Active 8 bottom baits with our own Gigantica special’s P-ISO 12mm pop-ups as a topper. Starting the week off using a good mixture off Mainline Essential Cell in 18mm and also 10mm with it partly crumbed, also adding Sweetcorn to the mix and then soaking it down with hemp oil and Essential Cell Stick Mix. Nathan went on to catch 9 fish from the swim this week with the biggest one tipping the scales just over 40lb, despite some savage cross winds mostly everyday he persevered and the results soon followed. Spombing little and often seen to be the winning tactic for Nathan this week constantly keeping the bait cruising through the layers, he got through 20kg off boilie and 5kg off corn.
Next up we have Josh McKnight, also josh’s 1st time visiting G and he was in Stink for the week ahead. Josh opted to fish short for the 1st couple of days 15 wraps towards Bob’s Beach and chose to bait the long spot 30 wraps also towards Bob’s Beach, this let the fish feed freely out there before he dropped 2 rods on the spot Tuesday night. This tactic certainly paid off for josh and he went on to catch 4 fish for the week, 3 fish came off the long spot and just the one fish from the opening night when he was fishing short. A 38lb stockie scaly was pick off the bunch for josh called ‘Conker’, this fish was introduced to the Main lake from the 2017 stocking at just only 6lb!! Josh was using Solid Bags when he was fishing short on the 1st few nights with yellow barrel wafters then filled with StickyBloodworm pellet and Golden Honey Goo, once josh swapped over to his longer spot he moved over to Multi-Combi Rigs with still the same yellow Mainline barrel wafters. The baited area was primed with Sweetcorn Flaked Maize supplied on site by us and also not forgetting Mainline Hybrid Boilies in 18mm Crumbed and chopped down.
Chris Clarke made his final 2 weeks off the year this week, ball 7 in the draw he landed in Big Southerlyfor the week ahead. Clarkey fished the usual spots 25.5 wraps with 3 rods aiming just left off Alcatraz, starting off the week like most off the guys just Solid Bags on their own he manged a bite on the opening night. Sunday midday Chris put out 5kg off spod mix containing Bait works Creamino in 15mm with House Mixed Particle with a glugging off Mainline PineappleSmart liquid, after he put bait out it was 3 days before he manged to get a 2nd bite so it’s just going to show setting little traps this time off year is a good tactic to use. Chris finished the week on just the 2 fish the better one being a fish known as ‘James’ at 43lb. Mainline PVA pellet mix and Pink barrel wafters as the Hook baits.
Chris Jackson was in Oblivion this week, with the wind smashing into the swim all week he primed up a spot down the right hand margin heading at Big southerly just only 10 wraps fishing in 12ft off water, feeding this spot with little and often from the margins edge it was Wednesday Chris dropped on it and at 1stlight Thursday morning he had 2 bites in 20 minutes and successfully landed them both. Chris was using the Bait works Creamino but crumbing it to fine dust then mixing it with Tinned corn that we sell here on site, rig off choice was the Spinner rig with a size 4 Korda Kurve Shank with 2 pieces off IB Pop-Up Corn. It was the 2 fish for the week for Chris coming from this short margin spot and it was a 34lb commonfor the biggest fish.
We welcomed Gavin Grant on his 1st trip to Gigantica this week. Gav kicked off the week fishing 28 wrapsfrom Alamo heading directly to the left of the Beach, with nothing to report back at midway point off the week Gav seen numerous fish sticking their heads out on 1st light at around 40 yards towards the margin between Beach and Treeline, just a single 15mm yellow Proper Carp Baits Pop-Up on a size 4 Spinner cast at the showing fish with in a matter of 10 minutes the rod was away a he was rewarded with his 1st Main lake carp, a fish know as ‘Dawson’ at 36lb and this was the only bite for Gav this week.
I managed to do 3 nights in Bob’s Beach this week, this is a swim I’ve always wanted to fish and to get off the mark in the opening night was a result. After watching how the lake has been fishing over the last couple off week and with the temperate really dropping off a night time I decided to just fish only Solid Bagswith Gigantica Special P-ISO wafters as hook baits and the Sticky Bloodworm Pellet, it was just the one fish for me ‘ Strap On Sally’ at 36lb coming from 20 wraps smack bang between Stink and Alamo. I fished bags only every night and was filling my bags up with the Golden Honey Goo witch recently seems to be doing plenty of bites.
That’s another week over and out at the big G, winter is certainly here and to any guys reading these reports who are heading over in upcoming weeks I would certainly recommend Solid Bags, I would also consider when fishing over bait crumbing the boilie down and having Flaked maize in your mix with corn and hemp.
All the best,
Joe
