New 80!!!

Funny week this week, you certainly wouldn’t think we was in late April! We had all seasons of weather this week from warm sunshine, hailstorms, rain, overcast and even frost on the cars some morning’s. This made things very difficult for the anglers but one lucky chap did manage a 80lber and it was a new 80 for the lake.

Lee Guest was that one lucky angler but wasn’t so lucky on the draw and came out last. Watching the go to swims disappear on the draw he was only left with one good option “Bob’s Beach” and one I was very shocked to see go last especially after it produced the Buzzin’ Fish the week prior. Lee was happy, he’s fished this swim before and caught from this swim on previous trips. So, he set his stool out fishing solid bags with pink wafters at 18 wraps towards stink and on that very first night he landed a unit, “Spence’s” at a new top weight of 83lb 12oz. This was a re-capture for Lee as he caught the same fish from the very same swim the year Prior!! Not a easy fish to catch normally once a year so a very well done to him. Tactic wise, little 4inch German rigs in solid bags with a lite scattering of 18mm boilies in and around the area helped produce this beast.

Dan Wildden in Big Southerly managed to land a couple later on in the week with one of our baby stocky’s and a nice 36lb 4oz mirror. Dan fished well throughout the week by sticking to his spots and done well to catch them fish from a tricky swim at this time of year! Dan was fishing two spots, one to his left at 14 wraps towards the snags and the other straight out at 25.5 wraps towards Alcatraz. Spinner rigs with yellow popups over crushed boilie hemp and maize.

Dominic Colson in Alcatraz struggled to catch anything on the bottom, but he did manage to catch four fish on Zigs. Nothing massive but still a few bites. He was casting the zig around where he was seeing showing fish at approximately 18ft off the bottom.

As you can see another tough week but there’s still bites to be had and I’m sure at any moment in the next week or so it’s going to kick into action.

Until Next Time
