Week Commencing: Sat 27/04/2024

New 70lber! Wooo…

This week we had 10 anglers on, including our very own Ben Morgan, who was joining a couple of his old friends on our Main Lake.

First up we have Jack Link who came out last in the draw and managed to get himself into the famous CO’s Point. Jack started the week fishing 30 wraps towards the flat oak tree, baiting up with a mixture of Atlantic Heat and Royal Marine boilie along with house maize. Fishing solid bags with triple IB soaked corn over the top, it was only Monday when Jack managed his first fish and an amazing looking carp at that! ‘King Fully’ at 41lb. It then went quiet for a few days for Jack but he kept at it keeping regular bait going in and then had a Friday to remember landing 4 fish starting with ‘Bucko’ at 32lb 4oz then ‘Fortuna’ at 35lb and another two part of a double take ‘Lippy Common’ at 70lb and ‘Scrappy’ at 33lb. Solid angling from Jack just goes to show sometimes you just need to stick to your guns.

Next up Ben Morgan who got in his first pick of swims this week, The Alamo. Ben started the week fishing shorter at 20 wraps and baiting up using Essential Cell and house pellet coated in hemp oil, having 2 rods on the deck and roaming with a zig using a red zig aligner and black foam. Bens first fish came on Monday night were he managed two fish; one known as ‘H’ at 30lb 11oz and a fresh stocky at 17lb, one on a zig and one off the deck. Bens bites carried on steadily after this throughout the week picking the majority of the fish up in the afternoon but mainly on a 20 foot zig after dinner. Ben managed to land 16 fish this week with the biggest being an old original called ‘The Cheese’ at 53lb 12oz along with another old scaley known as ‘Pixles’ at 44lb 5oz and also one of our stockies from 2017 called ‘Squeaky Clean’ which went in at 8lb and came out at 41lb 13oz, a recapture for Ben.

Next we have Dave Mansell who was in Big Southerly and had a tough week this week starting off fishing 25.5 wraps at Alcatraz and 14 at Alamo towards the snags to left fishing solid bags over a small amount of bait. It wasn’t until Dave put an 18 foot zig out on a red zig aligner and black foam he managed to land a beautiful mirror known as ‘Starry’ at 46lb 8oz on the Thursday evening after dinner which made his week. Unfortunately this was Dave’s only fish of the week but he went home a happy man and looks to return some day.

Over in Stock Pond this week we had one of our regular visitors Jon Parker who came out 6th in the draw, was out with us for two weeks doing the following week over on the road lake. Jon started up fishing 18 wraps towards Oblivion with one rod, then targeting the tree line with his other two. Fishing 9 wraps to the right hand corner, a spot that has been producing consistent bites for a while now, and 17.5 wraps half way up. Using solid bags with slow sinking maize, Jon was away the first night with ‘Bubbles’ at 35lb 8oz but then it slowed right up for him until the Thursday night were he managed two bites one of them being a lovely scaley known as ‘Little Plated’ at 39lb then a 26lber and topped it off with 2 unnamed 30s on the last night. Overall an enjoyable week for Jon, and I wish you luck next week over on the road!

Last up we have Liam Flynn who’s other half managed to get him a last minute cancellation less than 2 weeks before the trip. Liam plotted up in Pole Position and spent the week fishing 30 wraps at The Stink, baiting regularly before dinner service with boilie and house hemp and maize. Liam tried using a variety of hook baits on the bottom but unfortunately had to wait until the Friday for his first and only fish of the week, yet he was still happy with his first Gigantica carp ‘Columbus’ at 33lb. We look forward to your next trip Liam.

Overall a mixture of results across the lake but still a lot of happy faces and PB’s too. I’m sure we can all agree we wish we had a partner who booked us late cancellations as a surprise.

Roll on next week,

Tight lines,

Greg
