Man Overboard

Only one place to start this week and that is with old friend and regular visitor with us, Chris Irving. After pulling ball 10 Chris somehow still managed to get in the famous Co’s Point and decided to fish it in a similar way as he did his last trip over in Bob’s Beach and that was shorter than usual fishing solid bags over a bed of house pellet and hemp. Fishing at 18 wraps towards the flat oak Chris started off with a bucket of hemp and pellet and fished all 3 rods with solid bags using pink toppers. Monday is when it started to kick off for Chris when he put his rods out on first light after not fishing the night before when he had 5 fish including ‘Gums’ at 45lb 1oz ‘Two Faces’ at 39lb 3oz and another A Team member for Chris this year, in the shape of ‘Danish Bacon’ at 70lb! Chris was getting steady bites throughout the week during the daytime, starting at first light and going right on through the afternoon, quite often when we were talking pictures of fish on the mat. Wednesday was a special one for Chris as he managed to land his target fish from the lake, the mighty ‘Fred’ at 64lb, one he has been after for a long time and with him already losing one on the mat before photos this week we made sure to pin this one in with other anglers more than happy to help and share in the moment, which is one of the best bits. With Chris on a roll now it was just land and repeat he kept the bait going in and managed several other fish and even got to name one himself, now known as ‘Lauren’s Lips’ at 21lb and as we say “Greed is good” he wasn’t quite done there with the larger residents, he went and had another one of the sought after mirrors in the lake known as ‘Paw Print’ at 53lb 1oz which he landed on the Friday around midday. Another cracking week for Chris ending on 22 fish completing the set to 70lb.

Next up is Jason Tanner who came out second in the draw and chose to go in Big Southerly, his first choice. This was Jason’s second trip this year with us after a tough session in March. Jason spent the week fishing two spots; two rods out at 25.5 wraps towards Alcatraz and one towards the snags in his right hand margin at 14 wraps at The Alamo. Using a mixture of house pellet and particle along with his own boilie Jason also managed his first fish Monday known as ‘Mr President’ at 38lb 4oz coming off his longer spot towards Alcatraz a good start, then come Tuesday Jason he baited up before dinner then once he had headed back and got the rods back out he was away within an hour with one of our bigger commons known as ‘The Heart Tail Common’ at 51lb 12oz unfortunately that was it for Jason but he was happy with the improvement from his last trip.

Greg Dunner is up next who found himself in Baxter’s Hole after coming out 8th in the draw this week and was also very pleased to have managed to get into a swim that suits his style of fishing. Greg started the week fishing tight into the right hand corner at 11 wraps with one of his rods and 2 out in open water towards the red tower at 24 wraps. Using Bug boilie and house pellet and maize Greg concentrated putting more bait out on the open water spot and keeping it light in the corner and it wasn’t long until he was off the mark with his first two fish coming Monday morning, one known as ‘Clarence’ at 16lb and the other ‘The Bull-Nosed common’ at 37lb 12oz the pressure was off. After losing a couple throughout the week but still getting steady bites in the early hours of each morning Greg ended the week on 5 fish and topped it off with an old original known as ‘Colin’ at 46lb 8oz after dinner Friday evening while he still had the rod in his hand.

Richard Day came out seventh in the draw this week and managed to get himself in The Alamo. After a lead around on Saturday Richard settle on 20 wraps out in front and was baiting a shorter spot 15 wraps towards the clubhouse. Richard spent the week using Royal Marine boilie and house pellet, fishing snowmen over the top. Richard’s first fish came the early hours of Tuesday morning with a fish known as ‘The Tank’ at 42lb a lovely common and then managed another that day in the evening known as ‘Red October’ at 32lb unfortunately that was all for Richard this week.

In Bob’s Beach this week we had Simon Newton after coming out ball one in the draw. Simon started the week off fishing 28 wraps out infront and baiting heavy with just boilie, his boilie of choice being Mainline Cell and Link. Simon was first off the mark having one Saturday night in the shape of ‘Derwent’ at 34lb 4oz fishing Ronnies over his bed of boilie this one coming on a pink hook bait. Simon was then getting steady bites through the week landing multiple thirties including ‘The Ingot’ at 30lb 12oz an original scaley known as ‘Galacian’ at 31lb 4oz and his biggest of the week ‘Sans Oeuf’ at 36lb 4oz.

Darren Bartropp chose to go in Big Girls this week after coming out ball number six. Starting off fishing 21 wraps towards the stock pond outlet and 26 towards the spit, Darren also fished 10.5 wraps to the reeds to his left a lot further in the bay and this is where most of his bites came from this week. Using Bug and S7 boilie along with house maize Darren was using the bank to bait up from on the far side putting a couple of kilo on each spot per day then fishing Ronnies with sloe sinking IB maize over the top. Darren managed to get his first two fish Monday morning known as ‘Margarita’ at 23lb 8oz and ‘Brillo’ at 26lb 14oz a couple of our nice stocked mirrors, then followed up with two more bites Tuesday morning in the shape of Gogglebox at 29lb 14oz then a new PB called ‘Fluey’ at 37lb 1oz, Darren was made up. Darren rounded his trip off with a carp without a name weighing just 14lb 10oz on Friday morning and took us up on naming it and decided to go for ‘Bartology’.

Andy Day is up next in Pole Position where he was fishing 27 wraps towards the reeds to the right of Alamo and chose to go in with a mix of mainly Royal Marine boilie and house pellet. Tuesday afternoon was Andy’s first bite with a fish known as ‘Chavvy’ a lovely mirror at 37lb then his second and last fish came Thursday an unnamed common at 27lb now known as ‘The Wood Carving’ a tough week for Andy but he stuck at it.

Tyler Bartropp drew ball five this week and chose to go in The Stink. Fishing it 3 on a spot and settling on 30 wraps, Tyler was baiting up with Bug and S7 along with house pellet and maize, then fishing snowmen with a variety of colours on but this week pink still doing the bites. Tyler worked hard all week and kept the bait going in and it wasn’t until Thursday he got his first bite when he managed ‘4 Scale’ at 24lb 4 oz and a lovely common at 37lb 6oz. Another angler who kept his head and was rewarded late on in the week.

Last but not least in Ben Carney who decided to go in Treeline this week after doing a lot of bites the week before following on from where the bites were coming from he fished 24 wraps along the tree-line but came shorter on the spot towards stink and fished it at 20 wraps. Ben started off fishing Cell boilie with pink toppers on a ronnie rig over a mixture of Cell and house pellet and mixed particle picking up his first fish on Monday morning one known as ‘Cum Juggler’ at 30lb then it slowed up for him until the Friday when he managed to catch one of the old original scaley mirrors known as ‘Red Belly’ at 31lb as he just kept to his spots and kept putting in the effort.

So overall a busy week on the Main Lake this week with one red letter session for Chris and PBs still caught. A lot of fish coming out in the daylight hours and still coming out from all over the pond.

Roll on next week,

Tight Lines.
