Fat Fish Success!
Another success full week this week with twelve anglers on and ten out of the twelve catching. Summer is in full swing and so are the carp!
First off we have Andy Reynolds, Andy is a out and out boil angler and loves to fish short with a throwing stick or catapult, so one of the short range swims was best for him and he sure did manage to get into one of his favourites, Treeline! Andy opted to fish in open water and leave the treeline margin to let the fish be undisturbed and hopefully draw the out, this worked at treat as he was top rod for the week landing a total of seven and also managed the biggest fish of the week, a fish known as Spences at 73lb 8oz. Andy was fishing 12 wraps out towards the left of Stink feeding royal marine boilie with match the hatch hard hooker’s drilled out and stuffed with a bit of cork to act as a wafter. His go to D-Rig with a size 4 wide gape got him his bites.
Ian Oakwell next door in beach managed to get in one of his top three swims and with this swim having good form this year he was super happy and keen to get going. Ian started off fishing the go to 18 wrap spot towards stink but after a few days with no luck he decided to put a rod on a spot he found on the first day. A unknown spot that he found himself, seven wraps hard right towards Alcatraz, a very good move as the following morning he was greeted with The Cheese, a awesome looking old scaly mirror at 52lb 12oz. The week went on to be quiet until the last night when he managed another fish known as Cornification at 32lb. Ian was feeding just boilie, Sticky Krill with match the hatch bottom baits on a D-Rig’s with a running inline lead system.
Next up Phillip Newman managed to land himself in the Lordy Co’s Point swim. Phil was fishing at 18 wraps towards the flat oak but he was also priming a long spot at 31 wraps towards the tits just incase things didn’t work out at 18. Needless to say Phil didn’t need to go out to the 31 wrap spot as he managed to land 4 at 18 with the biggest being Scratches at 51lb 13oz. Phil was feeding a mixture of Baitworks boilie with maize and pellet, rig wise Phil was using spinners with match the hatch wafters.
Andy Norris in Alamo had a tricky week swapping and changing but still managed to land a total of 5 fish. The fish seemed to be hard going in this swim but swapping from his margin spot and his long spot he managed to catch a few. Margin spot being 9 wraps down his right, somewhere that gets overlooked in this swim and is almost a bit of no mans land. And the other spot being at 30 wraps to the left hand side of Bob’s Beach. Both spots produced but the biggest came from the 30 wrap spot in the name of Mr Tong at 50lb and a new 50 for the lake. Andy was fishing spinners swapping and changing his hook baits over top of CC-Moore boilie and maize.
Regular Chris Clarke was 2nd from top rod and coming out 9th in the draw he could not believe his luck when he managed to get himself Big Southerly! Chris has fished this swim many times before and has caught some mega fish from this swim. Chris fished the go to spots, two rods at 25.5 wraps to the left of Alcatraz and the other spot being 14 wraps hard left towards Alamo. After catching a few 30lb stockys from each spot he was finally rewarded on the Thursday with the Amazing King Fully at 43lb 8oz, a recapture for Chris but he was still a very happy man. Chris was fishing his go to solid bags over the top of sticky liver boilie and house pellet.
Myself I landed in Big Girl’s a swim that is overlooked by many but a swim that always produces a few so I was keen for a few bites, only managed to do two nights but did manage to catch four in total. Nothing massive, the Biggest being Bailey’s at 34lb 8oz but still happy to have a few. Fishing 26 wraps to the spit just at the bottom of the marginal slop feeding loads of hemp with a third being maize. My go to 4inch spinners on running lead clips with yellow wafters over the top.
Some mega hot weather coming next week so who knows whats going to happen, Gigantica does like a bit of sunshine and high pressure so fingers crossed for a busy week!
Until Next Time
