Week Commencing: Sat 09/11/2024
Beaver Moon
This week we welcomed some new and some returning customers to the Main Lake, all eager to have a stab at catching some of the magnificent carp we have at Gigantica, let’s see how they got on.
First up in we have Marcus Leek who drew ball 11 in the dreaded draw and had Tree Line, Baxter’s Hole and Scottie’s Corner and opted to go in Tree Line. Fishing 2 spots at first Marcus was fishing one up the tree line and two in open water at 21.5 wraps at The Stink to start off with. Using his baiting pole and casting over it then hand placing his rig tight to the bushes was a great tactic Marcus was using and produced the goods the first night where he landed one known as ‘Bite Mark’ at 36lb 8oz. Tuesday was his next bite landing ‘CarpFix’ at 28lb 4oz off his open water spot. After observing the fish activity for the first couple of nights, Marcus then decided to seek out a spot where they had been showing and settled at 13.5 wraps out just to his right. A great example of the difference it can make watching the water and acting on what you see, as the next night Marcus had ‘The Buzzin’ Fish’ the next night off his new spot at 66lb 4oz. Marcus used German rigs fishing pink C22 hoolbaits over a light spread of C22 fishmeal boilie, which also helped him land his second 60 of the week one called ‘The Koi’ at 61lb 8oz.
Next up we had Simom McMillan who got in The Alamo after getting ball 5 in the draw. Simon had a bit of a strange week after it was very quiet over his side apart from the one night, Monday night, were he managed a 100+lb brace of commons. Kicking off with ‘Wonderwall’ at 49lb a fish stocked in 2019 at 18lb 4oz and only its second ever capture the other by DF himself, it had certainly packed on the weight. Simon then backed this up with ‘Parker’ at 60lb 8oz managing to smash his PB twice in one night. Simon was fishing solid bags with signature squid wafters filling his bags with corn cloud, then fishing them over a bed of corn at 16 wraps towards Baxter’s Hole.
Ball 12 this week went to Paul Morris, who spent his first night in Scottie’s Corner before moving into Baxter’s Hole Sunday evening after dinner. After watching a lot of fish show Paul wasted no time, casting towards showing fish and managed to have one his first night after the move known as ‘The Spectator’ at 39lb 4oz. Settling in now he started to get some bait out fishing a bed of Creamino boilie and corn with double 10mm match the hatch boilies over the top. Fishing two rods at 26 in open water towards the red tower and one rod to his left 9 wraps down the margin, it was then Tuesday night Paul managed his next fish catching a new PB common in the shape of ‘Terminator’ at 57lb 8oz alongside ‘Deathstar’ at 32lb.
Next door in Bob’s Beach we had Toby Wyatt who got ball 3 in the draw. Happy with his choice after doing fish the week prior, Toby started off fishing 24 wraps towards The Stink. Fishing over corn and crushed boilie Toby fished spinners over the top using a Fluro Essential Cell popup soaked in Bumbleberry and Pink Almond goo. It was Sunday night when he managed his first fish and a new PB as well with one known as ‘Lennie’s’ at 56lb which came out shortly after topping up his spot with a handful of spombs in the day. After losing one later in the week, Toby had to wait until first light Friday morning for his next fish landing ‘The Almost Nude Fish’ at 39lb 12oz.
Down in Stock Pond this week saw Dylan Browne who picked out ball 10 in the draw. Dylan had a steady week managing to catch at least one fish most nights. Spreading his rods out across three spots, Dylan fished two up the tree line at 17.5 wraps and 26, then one out in open water 27 wraps towards oblivion. Fishing a D-Rig spinner with a shot on the hook using a lead clip system, Dylan was fishing over a bed of crushed Cell boilie with house flaked maize and hemp with a yellow pineapple and isotonic hook bait. Dylan ended the week on 6 fish including ‘Pearly Lin’ 52lb 2oz, ‘Bailey’s at 40lb, ‘Baby Belle’ at 38lb ‘IBC’ at 31lb on his last night and even got to name a couple himself a 25lb 2oz mirror now known as ‘Tumble’ and a 21lb mirror which he named ‘Kentucky’.
Across over in Big Southerly this week we had David Powell. David pulled ball 7 this week and after seeing the spot that was fished by the angler the week before fizzing up on the walk round, he decided to put out three solid bags on their own, which did the trick as he was away within a few hours to his first Gigantica fish and what a fish it was a very sought after scaley original called ‘Equalled’ at 49lb 2oz caught on a silty pig wafter, this also being his new PB.
Opposite David in Alcatraz we had a friendly face, a regular visitor to us here at Gigantica, Matt Jenkins. Doing better than usual in the draw Matt got ball 4 and decided to go long out of Alcatraz fishing 33 wraps towards the well-known scary tree. Tuesday at first light was Matt’s first fish, catching “all front” stocked fish from way back in 2018 for the first time since with ‘Big Tits’ at 32lb coming on a Creamino bottom bait with a 10mm Cell yellow topper over a bed of crushed and whole matching boilie mixed with corn. Matt’s second and last of the week came on Thursday, again at first light, when he had ‘Han Solo’ at 23lb 4oz.
And last but not least we had Dennis Ferncombe over in Oblivion after coming out ball 8. It was a tough week for Dennis after trying several spots throughout the week, it wasn’t until his last night when he chucked a solid bag with a single grain of slow sinking maize at a showing fish he was rewarded for his efforts landing a lovely 44lb mirror.
It was good to see a few of the bigger residents come out this week alongside some who’ve not been seen for years, just makes you wonder how they can get by so long without slipping up. Congratulations to Simon, Toby and David on their new personal bests and let’s hope for plenty more in the coming weeks.
Roll on next week.
Tight Lines,
Greg.
