Week Commencing: Sat 11/01/2025

Unusual Times

With no customers on this week, it was a great opportunity for us to get some work done around the lake.

We also took the chance to get some fishing done ourselves as well in between maintenance work around the lakes.  Read on to see what action was had.

Our long-standing team member here, Ben “The Wizard” Morgan felt that there was an opportunity to be had fishing from Alcatraz and as per usual he wasn’t wrong.

He positioned his rods out at 33 wraps to the right of Big Southerly and introduced 20 Spomb’s of bait out that was a simple mix of corn and 10mm Cell boilie.  Some of the boilie he also crumbed up in his mix.

Monday at around lunchtime he was away.  A lovely linear named “Drop Scale Linear” at 41lb 8oz.  A nice way to start off for him, and a nice way to get back into the flow of things after having some time off away from Gigantica.

Ben decided not to fish Wednesday night but planned to put the rods back out at first light on the Thursday.  That he did and within 10 minutes of the rods being out and 5 more Spomb’s of bait over the top he was into his second fish.  “Radpide” weighing 31lb 12oz was his reward.

Short spinners, Isotonic pop-ups and lead clips was the winning tactics this week.

That was all the action for Ben, in tough challenging winter temperatures it was nice to get some fish on the bank.

Well done mate, good to see you back here.

Temporary member of staff Tom “Borat” Brown went into Stink after it had produced four fish the week before and pressed repeat on the spot, fishing 28 wraps to the right of Baxters.

He was rewarded with his first main lake fish around midnight on the Sunday.  A fresh 28lb mirror that is now named “Carbs”.

Similar tactics to Ben, a mix of corn and Cell boilie and fishing spinners with two grains of slow sinking yellow maize.

Despite his efforts no more fish came his way this week.

Well done on your first Gigantica carp Tom.

Despite my own efforts nothing happened for me, but that is winter fishing for you.  Back to normal next week, so hopefully the guys will get into some more of our residents.

Tight lines.

Gareth “Gino”.
