Week Commencing: Sat 01/02/2025
Young, Dumb and Full of Crumb
So, this week saw 8 anglers on the Main Lake and with the change in weather and the strong south westerly easing off, let’s see how they all got on.
First up we have Brad Betteridge who came out third in the draw and managed to get himself in the famous Co’s Point. After a quick lead about and going off previous catch reports, Brad settled on 28 wraps at “The Tits”. Starting off with 15 spombs of his mix, which consisted of Essential Cell in crumb form, Cell crumb soaked in the matching smart liquid, tinned sweetcorn and a dashing of house hemp and flaked maize, Brad fished braided D-rigs over the top with trimmed down Essential Cell wafters soaked in Pineapple and Isotonic hook baits. After topping up his spot with 5-10 spombs before dinner each day, Brad’s first fish came on Tuesday mid-morning in the shape of ‘Dawson’ at 40lb 8oz. now he had managed to get his first bite he then topped up the spot with another 15 spombs, his next bite came on Wednesday night, being one of our freshly stocked fish, put in just before Christmas and as we do here at Gigantica, when you are the first one to catch a newly stocked fish you get to name it, with Brad going with ‘Thug Life’ weighing 10lb. Unfortunately that was it for Brad this week but we hope to see him again soon.
Next up over in Bob’s Beach we had Connor, who pulled ball 5 in the draw. Using a similar bait to Brad, and the type of bait we would strongly recommend here at Gigantica at this time of year, Connor used Essential Cell in crumb, Cell crumb, and house flaked maize all soaked in cream smart liquid and started off with 20 spombs over the spot. Connor went with 3 on the spot fishing 29 wraps at The Alamo and ensured he was fishing very tidy both with his baiting up and casting, putting out 3 spinners on Pineapple and Isotonic soaked slow sinking maize. Connor was first one to catch this week also landing his fish on Tuesday morning just after breakfast, where he had the beautiful ‘Little Plated’ at 39lb 8oz, getting himself on the wall. After topping up his spot, it wasn’t until Thursday Connor’s next bite where he had ‘Nova’ at 29lb 8oz with this again coming in the morning. Connor didn’t stop there though and kept going to the last morning when he managed to get one on the last morning being a 27lb 2022 stockie.
Another tough week this week but a couple of others were lost around the lake which is a shame, but we go again.
Tight Lines,
Greg.
