Last Night Success
On the Main Lake this week we had 7 new anglers and one staying on for his second week, let’s see how they got on.
First up we have regular visitor Tom Southall. Tom had visited us a few times this winter and booked on to a late cancellation just a few days before his trip. Coming out ball 5 in the draw Tom spent the first part of his week fishing in Bob’s Beach but after giving it until Wednesday and seeing fish over the other side decided to spend his last two nights in Big Girls. As the fish seemed to already be in the area Tom wanted to make the least amount of disturbance as possible and decided to fish solid bags with no bait. Thursday night was his first bite in the shape of ‘Roy’ at 34lb 8oz, fishing 16 wraps midway up the tree line using slow sinking maize and a combo bag mix. Tom was made up after a few tough trips, but little did he know things were about to get a lot better. Friday night saw Tom 3 fish including the incredible carp known as ‘Spotty Leather’ at a new top weight of 70lb 4oz and a new PB for Tom, followed up 2 twenties one being ‘Bloz’ at 23lb 4oz. Unfortunately, with the fish coming on the last morning we were unable to give Tom his bucket, but we won’t forget for his next trip.
Next, we have Rick Boulton, who started his week fishing in Tree Line and similar to Tom saw an opportunity late in the week and decided to spend his last night in Oblivion. Great decision this turned out to be as he landed 3 fish on his last night, biggest being ‘Violet’ at 44lb along with ‘Chilly’ at 19lb and another cracking 37lb 8oz common. Rick spent his last night casting solid bags towards showing fish using slow sinking maize as hook baits. We look forward to seeing you in May.
Danny is up next and on his second week with us here at Gigantica. Armed with his knowledge from the week before, Danny decided to go in Co’s Point after managing to get in there with ball number 3. After the previous angler’s success Danny followed up and chose to fish in the same area, being 30 wraps at the tits baiting with Manilla boilie crumb, soaked in smart liquid along with corn and house hemp. Danny put in a good hit of bait on the first day in attempt to hold the fish that were already there and fish slow sinking maize over the top and topped up each morning with a handful of spombs. Danny biggest fish of the week was one known as ‘Willow’ at 38lb 4oz along with a few of our recently stocked fish one being ‘Ernie’ at 11lb and a newly named ‘Measles’ at 13lb 4oz.
Last up we have James Morgan-Boulton who got the last ball this week and chose to go in Pole Position. It was a tough week for James this week after not seeing much over his spots throughout the week but after putting a solid bag out to where he saw a fish on the last evening managed to land one Saturday morning being ‘Baz Rat’ at 19lb saving the blank. Hopefully there is more to be had in May, we’ll see you then.
Just goes to show at this time of year if you see them, get on them.
Tight Lines,
Greg.
