Its All About The Corners
These fish don’t seem to know what they want to do at the moment, some seem to still be full of spawn and they keep acting like they want to have another go.
It seems of late that its very hard for anyone to get the fish going consistently throughout the week in any given swim.
But, still bites to be had and the lads done well considering the conditions.
First up we have first timer on the Main Lake, Tony Perry, Tony came to the lake with Big Girls in mind and thats just what he managed to get. Setting his stool out on three different spots across the tree line he had great confidence for a few. First spot being the furthest at 26 wraps just of the spit the 2nd being the inlet spot at 21 wraps and the other being hard left down the margin at 9 wraps. Tony caught all his fish from the 9 wrap spot down the left, the fish seem love to get into the shallow water in the day that this swims provides then at night, when they want a bit a grub its game on. Tony caught a fish almost every night but all being fairly small, then Wednesday night, the night before the full moon is when Tony had “The Clean Fish” at 67lb and at a new top weight too.
The Clean fish fell to a solid bag with a yellow isotonic wafter, over a bed of house pellet maize and boilie.
Billy Morrison had a steady week in Scottie’s Corner catching a total of six fish, all coming the weed bed at 17.5 wraps. Billy done the correct thing and left the sim to rest throughout the days and put his rods out just after dinner, and this is when he would catch his fish. He managed to catch some very nice carp throughout the week including resident top the swim “The Leather” at 52lb 8oz, “2 C’s” at 50lb 12oz, “La Boheme” at 48lb 4oz and a few others. All his fish came to orange pop ups with spinner’s in the weed, then feeding from the bank just behind Co’s Point. A few fish have been coming out on orange recently, is orange becoming the new yellow? Time will tell!
Regular visitor Jez Westgarth “King Of Cancellations” got himself here this week and slipped himself into Big Southerly. A fairly slow week for Jez, not a corner swim where the fish have been holding up recently but he does have the snags down to his right and the carp did spend some time in this area throughout the week. Jez fished two spots one out at 26 wraps towards Alcatraz where he put two rods and the 3rd rod was placed to his left at 14 wraps towards Alamo. Jez maanged to catch of both spots but it was the 26 wrapper that done him his biggest “The Elusive” at 52lb 4oz, a very impressive common. Spinners with pink pop ups over a bed of just boilie, covered in liquids was the feeding and rig tactic for the week.
Another first timer Danny Ely got himself in the famous Bob’s Beach, the fish didn’t seem to hang around this area throughout this week but when they did turn up he had a very small window and he defiantly mad hay. Danny came with a group of mates and before the trip he spoke about if he could catch one fish it would be the “Pearly Lin” and thats just what he managed to do, catch the “Pearly Lin” at a new top weight of 54lb 4oz, 900 plus fish, what are the chances? He also managed to catch another fish just after Pearly Lin, a fish known as “Life Of Brian” at 23lb 10oz. All caught from the go to spot at 18 wraps towards Alamo, wafters on spinners over a bed of boilie and pellet.
Micheal Tracy, the joker for this week. You should never trust a man with two first names, its a common fact! Micheal started the week with his head blown and asked me more questions than a guest on who wants to be a millionaire. But once settled he certainly showed a bit of skill, set up in Treeline fishing two different spots, one towards the life ring hole in the treeline at 21 wraps with one rod and the other two out towards stink at 23 wraps. Both spots produced but the cherry on the cake has to be the common he caught! A fish that was stocked back in 2017 at 8lb and has never been caught until now, the fish is now known as “Hat’s” named after Michael’s daughter and weighing in at a staggering 49lb 12oz, all that time without ever being caught. Michael finished the week on 6 fish in total all coming of spinners with Poucher Maple Nut boilies and match the hatch wafters.
Paul Foskett aka Fozzy in Stock Pond managed a few throughout the week but all being night bites bar one and his biggest “The Tennant” at 41lb 2oz. Paul tried a few different spots in the swim but caught all his fish of the 26 wrap spot towards the far corner. Spinners with wafters doing the bites and walking round to feed with the scoop or by hand.
Thats it for this week guys, if you’re coming in the next few weeks do not ignore the corners! These are the true winners this time of year, we see to many people blinded by the going swims and fishing at range, this is currently not the case at them moment.
Until next time
