Moustaches for the Win
This week saw one of our annual group visitors come for their social and with a strange spike in temperature lets see how they got on.
Starting off with Graham Spooner this week who got ball 2 and decided to fish in Stock Pond as this suited his style of angling and he felt he would fish to his strengths in there, which should be rule number one when fishing Gigantica. After a good inspection of the swim on the Saturday afternoon, Graham decided to fish two of his rods towards the corner at 20 wraps and his other at 18 towards Oblivion. Going in with straight boilie, starting with a couple of kilos, Graham fished match the hatch bottom baits over the top and was the first one off the mark this week when he had a 90lb brace on Sunday night where he had ‘Baby Eclipse’ at 40lb, one that hadn’t been caught in 2 years coming off his 20 wrap spot and ‘Sammy’ an old original and at a new top weight of 51lb 8oz, coming off his spot towards Oblivion. Sticking to what was working Graham topped the spot up in the afternoon and reset his rigs and was steady with night bites from then on catching ‘Merida’ at 23lb 4oz on the Tuesday night and another 40lber known as ‘AJ’s’ at 41lb 8oz on Wednesday night, ending the week nicely with a Saturday morning bite with one of our old scalies known as ‘Happy Daze’ at 34lb. A great weeks angling from Graham.
Next up we had Dom Colson who drew ball 5 and managed to get himself in Co’s Point. Choosing to fish two spots this week he went with two rods out towards the tits at 28 wraps and one shorter at 18 towards the flat oak, it was his longer spot that did the bites for him this week. Going in with a mix consisting of house hemp and boilie, Dom fished match the hatch bottom baits over the top and had his first bite on Monday night tipping the scales round to the magic 50lb mark with one known as ‘Little Kicker’ and a new 50lber for the Main Lake. Wednesday night was Dom’s final bite of the week where he had an original scalie called ‘Chippy’ at 26lb 4oz.
Last up this week is Dan Wilden who got the magic ball this week drawing ball 1 and chose to go in Big Southerly. After a good lead about Dan decided to fish 26 wraps towards Alcatraz with two of his rods and one down his left hand margin towards the snags at 14 wraps towards Alamo and opted for a boilie approach with Creamino. After losing one on the first night, Dan finally got off the mark Sunday night where he managed to land one known as ‘Double Gill’’ going 40lb, this again coming on a match the hatch bottom bait. It then went quiet for a day until the wind turned and warm southerlies came in and the fish seemed to move back over Dan, leading him to pick up two more Tuesday night where he had a fish known as ‘Tone’ at 23lb 8oz and the recognisable ‘Cheesy Quaver’ at 37lb. That was it for Dan until Saturday morning where he had the only common off the week, ending it with ‘Boreas’ at 35lb.
A tough week this week, with the fish very active at night time but just didn’t seem to get their heads down in numbers, hopefully the warmer weather in July brings you better results, see you in July guys!
Tight Lines,
Greg.
