Positive Times Ahead?
Well, we are almost at the midpoint of the winter season already, and with very little action in the past couple of weeks here at Gigantica, would the warmer spell of weather that was forecast for this coming week going to change the fortunes for the anglers? Well for one it did………
Jez Westgarth, a returning customer of ours here, had the good fortune of pulling ball number one out of the hat and having never fished from Co’s Point before, he just had to get himself in there for a go. And why not, with this swim being a firm favourite amongst the customers certainly at this time of year.
It took a few days, well until the Tuesday evening before any action came on the lake and one of our freshly stocked fish from just before the Christmas period lay at the bottom of Jez’s net. Although not big, it was certainly more than welcomed around the whole lake. This was also the first day in a while that we had very spring like weather conditions, which remained for the rest of the week with it turning to almost t-shirt weather in the sunshine. Despite this fish, it then wasn’t until the Friday at the end of the week when more action came along when shortly before the breakfast run Jez netted another fresh stockie, a similar weight to the last weighing 10lb. But then late morning on that day another two carp came along for the party, 15lb 8oz again a new stockie and this was then backed up by a nice 22lb mirror from last year’s stocking.
A four fish total for Jez in Co’s, yes, they were smaller fish, but very very welcomed after a very tough couple of weeks out here.
Jez’s fish all came from the same area, 32 ½ wraps to the ‘flat oaks’ where he positioned 5” spinner rigs on Hybrid lead clips, using size 5 and 6 Spinner hooks and our yellow Gigantica Special pop-up hook baits. These were fished over a combination of 10mm boilie, some boilie crumb, corn and hemp with some added liquid delight to help get the fish interested.
Each day Jez introduced between 20-25 spods a day, baiting in both the early mornings and late evenings.
Well done on the fish, nice to see some on the bank, and we will see you again later in the year.
A short catch report this week, and only four anglers on who spread themselves well around the lake (one on each bank more or less) and with some fish being active and heard during the Friday night, let’s hope that the guys get amongst some fish next week.
Until next time, tight lines.
